Try each of the following steps in order until the issue is resolved: 

  1. Ensure you are on a compatible version of The Raiser's Edge
     
  2. If there is not an RE_EXPRESS instance listed in Services as being installed and running:
     
    1. Detach the database from the RE7_MSDE SQL instance.
       
    2. Manually install SQL EXPRESS  (RE_EXPRESS).
       
    3. Ensure TCP/IP and Named Pipes protocols are enabled.
       
    4. Attach the database to RE_EXPRESS.
       
  3. If there is an RE_EXPRESS instance listed in Services:
     
    1. Detach the database.
       
    2. Attach the database to RE_EXPRESS.
       
  4. Verify you are running MDAC version 2.8 or higher.
