User configured for Windows authentication is prompted for a username and password when logging in

When logging into The Raiser's Edge or Financial Edge, users are prompted for login credentials even though the user is configured for Windows authentication in the application.

Try each of the following steps in order until the issue is resolved:

1. Ensure that the Windows user has either local administrator rights or the required NTFS permissions on the workstation.

2. Rename the BBUpdate.ini file found in The Raiser's Edge installation directory.  Default location:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackbaud\The Raisers Edge 7\ on 64-bit operating systems
C:\Program Files\Blackbaud\The Raisers Edge 7\ on 32-bit operating systems

C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackbaud\The Financial Edge\ on 64-bit operating systems
C:\Program Files\Blackbaud\The Financial Edge on 32-bit operating systems

3. If using the Raiser's Edge version 7.94 or lower, or Financial Edge and a User Account Control (UAC) enabled operating system (i.e., Windows 7, 8, 8.1. or Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, or 2012 R2), rename the BBUpdate.ini file in the Windows user's virtual store.  NOTE:  It may be necessary to show all hidden files and folders in order to see this folder as it is hidden by default.  Default location:

C:\Users\[WindowsUserName]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Blackbaud\The Raisers Edge 7\ on 64-bit operating systems
C:\Users\[WindowsUserName]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Blackbaud\The Raisers Edge 7\ on 32-bit operating systems

C:\Users\[WindowsUserName]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Blackbaud\The Financial Edge\ on 64-bit operating systems
C:\Users\[WindowsUserName]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Blackbaud\The Financial Edge\ on 32-bit operating systems

4. Double-click on the Raiser's Edge or Financial Edge desktop shortcut/icon, select your database (if using multiple databases) and log in.

NOTE:  If using the Raiser's Edge 7.94 or lower or Financial Edge and a server operating system that has User Account Control (UAC) enabled (i.e., Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, or 2012 R2), then right-click on the Raiser's Edge desktop shortcut/icon and select "Run as administrator" to log in.

5. If the issue persists, then uninstall and re-install The Raiser's Edge/Financial Edge on the workstation.

6. If the issue occurs for multiple users, detach and re-attach the database.

Environment
