The Raiser's Edge security defines the level of access your users have to various areas of the program, giving you the ability to ensure the consistency and confidentiality of your data by limiting access to records and functions to only those users who need it. These security settings determine if a user can view, add, edit, or delete records, and which functions he or she can use throughout the program.
Managing security entails creating security groups, defining rights for the group, creating users, and assigning users to groups. Before you begin setting up security, change the Supervisor password from the default.
Users without rights to certain areas of the program do not have links to them on the Raiser's Edge bar. Only the supervisor and those users with supervisory rights have full access to all areas of the program. While you can assign supervisory rights to any of your users, exercise caution and carefully evaluate your security before doing so.
The security groups have full access to all modules by default. To restrict a group's access to an area of the program, remove the check from the appropriate box under Group Privileges. You can further define security rights within an area of the program by highlighting it under Group Privileges and clicking Options. For example, you can establish add, edit, view, and delete rights for Records.
