For the 2016 / 2017 tax year, the 1099 forms and W2 forms required will depend on the version of The Financial Edge that you are running. You can find this by selecting Help > About The Financial Edge, while you are logged into the program.
To properly order forms you need to know the version of Financial Edge you are running and which forms you plan to generate. The information below applies to all Payroll users and all Accounts Payable users running version 7.87 or higher.
The quickest filing options are to either Efile or use the Aatrix Complete Efile service. You can find filing deadlines for those items here, W2 and 1099.
On Financial Edge version 7.87 or higher here are the paper form requirements:
1099’s -1099-MISC forms will now print to blank tax forms paper, a specialty paper constructed with specific perforations required by the IRS. Some forms must use red preprinted forms: These are the 1096 transmittal forms and the IRS/federal copy A for the 1099-MISC. Note, only the preprinted form must be red. Load these into a normal laser printer with regular black toner.
W2/ACA - W-2 forms will now print to blank tax forms paper, a specialty paper constructed with specific perforations required by the IRS. The W-3 transmittal form and the W-2 federal copy A can be printed to plain copy paper.
The layout of the employee copies has changed from 4-up horizontal strips to a 4-up (two over two) box alignment with one form in each corner. This means that the 1099s, the ACA health care reporting forms, and the W-2s can all be mailed in the same envelope.
