When the Social Security number is used as the identifier, the Social Security Number will locate and identify the record.  However, an import ID is a read-only field for existing constituents and cannot be updated for existing constituents through import.  In order to import new and update existing constituents through import, it is necessary to have the import id's for those existing constituents.



1. Create two separate imports



Import A: Updating existing records using the SSN - The social security number header (SSNum) and social security numbers will be used for this import. The import ID header is not required for this data file.  


 
     
    • In the What do you want to do? frame, define what to accomplish with the import: Select to update existing records
     
    • Complete the How do you want the system to identify existing constituents? Use the Social Security Number





    Import B: Importing new constituent records - The Import ID header is required for this import.


     
       
      • In the What do you want to do? frame, define what to accomplish with the import: Import New Records
       
      • Complete the How do you want the system to identify existing constituents? Social Security number as the identifier
