Error: Error occurred while trying to restore database. CREATE DATABASE or ALTER DATABASE failed because the resulting cumulative database size would exceed your licensed limits of [10240] MB per database when attaching a database

When attaching a database that is larger than the SQL Server 2008 R2 Express size limit of 10 GBs, users will receive the error:
  • Error occurred while trying to restore database. CREATE DATABASE or ALTER DATABASE failed because the resulting cumulative database size would exceed your licensed limits of 10240 MB per database.

Attach your database to a compatible full version of SQL Server using the Blackbaud Management Console.  SQL Server 2008 R2 Express imposes a size limit of 10 gigabytes (10240 MB).  A database that is larger than those limits must be attached to a full version of SQL Server (i.e. Standard or Enterprise).  Full versions of SQL Server do not have database size limitations.
