You can use actions and action tracks in The Raiser's Edge to cultivate relationships with constituents and implement your moves management strategy.

Actions are used to track the various communications made with your constituents using the Actions tab. An action can be past, current, or future. By entering all contacts made, you can establish a history of communications between your organization and the constituent. Some examples of actions include telephone calls, meetings, lunch appointments, follow-up calls, letters, etc.

Action tracks are a pre-defined set of actions that can be assigned to a constituent. They can be dependent on another action being completed or can be independent in that they are assigned to a record after a period of time has elapsed. Action tracks are useful for defining different actions for different levels of prospects. i.e. Major Prospects and Regular Prospects. To create an action track, select Tools, Action Tracks, Define Action Tracks from the Raiser's Edge menu bar.

For example, you enter a new prospect into your database. At your organization, new prospects get a phone call, a newsletter, and a "Hello" letter. The phone call and the newsletter go out on the same day; the "Hello" letter goes out one week later. This is an ideal situation for an action track. You can set up a track where the first two actions take place on a certain date, and the track ensures that the second part of the action track takes place one week later.

Here's another example of how to use action tracks for a major donor prospect. At your organization, major donor prospects receive a phone call, attend a lunch meeting, receive a thank-you note, newsletter, and pin. The phone call happens first. Based on the completion of the phone call, the lunch meeting is scheduled for one week later. After the lunch meeting, a thank you note is sent out immediately. The newsletter and pin are sent about a week after the initial call. All these things can be added as an action track, with one action occurring as a result of the completion of another.
