Positive Pay is a fraud-protection process for Accounts Payable checks only. When a check is produced a Positive Pay file is also created. The file contains information such as check number, date, amount, and payee. The Positive Pay is transmitted electronically to the bank. When a check is presented at the bank for payment, the bank reviews the Positive Pay transmissions to see if the check is valid. A check will only be honored if the Positive Pay transmission matches the payment details.
