The Unites States Postal Service (USPS) uses the addresses corrected by Deliver Point Validation (DPV) (BB322862) to further direct mail parcels to their exact destinations. Delivery Point Validation (DPV) checks to see if the combination of Address Lines, City, State, and 5 digit Zip code indicates a complete, correct address. DPV detects incomplete addresses such as missing apartment numbers as well as flagging Commercial Mail Receiving Agencies A successful DPC adds the following information:

Zip+4 uses the 5 digit Zip Code but adds 4 digits to specify a smaller geographic segment that falls within the borders of the 5 digit Zip Code (ex: an apartment complex or block of homes).

CART stands for Carrier Route. The Post Offices uses CART (BB522312) as a designation for the actual mail carrier assigned to a particular address.

LOT stands for Line of Travel.  Indicates the direction a mail carrier moves along while delivering his/her mail.

DPC stands for Delivery Point Code. DPC (BB28527) is a Postnet Barcode that contains the Zip+4 plus two additional digits (10 additional bars) that designate a specific delivery point.
