Note : Before you proceed with the following instructions, back up the database. If your organization integrates multiple Blackbaud products, refer to the Additional Requirements section of the backup article.
 

 

  1. Create an attribute import file:
    1. Click Admin, Import
       
    2. Highlight Constituent, Constituent Attribute and click New
       
    3. On the General tab:
      • What do you want to do? Select Create import File
         
      • If creating the import file for a query of records, click Include, Selected Records. Search for and select the query.
         
      • In the Import file field, click the ellipses (...). On the Select Import file screen, browse to the location where the import file should be saved. In the File name field, enter a name for the import file with a CSV extension (e.g., import.csv). In the Files of Type field, select All Files. Click OK.
         
       
      • On the File Layout tab, leave everything set to the defaults
         
      • On the Fields tab, select the following fields (to locate the fields, click the plus (+) sign next to Constituent Attribute in the left frame:
        • Attribute Import ID
           
        • Category
           
        • Comments
           
        • Date
           
        • Constituent Import ID
           
        • Description
           
         
        • On the Summary tab, leave everything set to the defaults
           
        • Select File, Save from the menu bar and save and name the import parameters
           
        • Click Create Now
           
         
        • Open and edit the import file in Excel

                a.    Sort the entire spreadsheet by the Attribute Category

                b.    Remove any attributes that do not need to be updated.

                c.    Modify the Attribute Description as needed.
           
                d.    Save and close the CSV file.

           
        • Import the updated file:
          1. Click Admin, Import
             
          2. Highlight Constituent, Constituent Attribute and double-click the import created in step 2
             
          3. On the General tab:
            • What do you want to do? Select Update existing records
               
            • Leave everything else set to the defaults
               
             
            • On the File Layout tab, leave everything set to the defaults
               
            • On the Fields tab, ensure that each field is mapped properly
               
            • On the Summary tab, leave everything set to the defaults
               
            • Select File, Save from the menu bar and save and name the import parameters
               
            • Click Update Now
