An error occurred trying to restore <database>. Directory lookup for the file "<path>\FE7Database.mdf" failed with operation system error 2(The system cannot find the file specified.). File 'RE7Database_dat" cannot be restored to <path>. Use WITH MOVE to identify a valid location for the file. Directory lookup for the file "<path>\log.ldf" failed with the operating system error 2(The system cannot find the file specified.). File 'FE7Database_log' cannot be restored to '<path>'. Use WITH MOVE to identify a valid location for the file. Problems were identified while planning for the RESTORE statement. Previous messages provide details. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.

  1. From the Run line, type services.msc to view the list of Windows services
  2. Locate SQL Server (name) service
  3. Right click on the applicable SQL Server service and choose Properties
  4. Select the Log On tab in order to view/determine the account that is running the SQL Server service
  5. Be sure that the account that is running this SQL Server service has Full Control permissions to the destination folder where the backup is being restored to
  6. Restore database using the Blackbaud Management Console
