Follow the instructions below specific to the version of SQL Server you are upgrading to or installing:

SQL Server 2005 Express:

  1. Verify you don't exceed the limitations of SQL Server 2005 Express
  2. Verify your application is compatible with SQL Server 2005
  3. Backup the databases
  4. Detach the databases from SQL Server 2000 using the Blackbaud Management Console
    Note:  When detaching the database, note the primary file path of the database to use when reattaching your database
  5. Install SQL Server 2005 Express
    1. The Raiser's Edge
    2. The Financial Edge, the Education Edge, or Student Information Systems
  6. Attach the database to the newly installed SQL Server instance using the Blackbaud Management Console, browsing out to the database file location noted in step 3 above.

 
SQL Server 2005:

  1. Verify your application is compatible with SQL Server 2005
  2. Backup the databases
  3. Detach the databases from SQL Server 2000 using the Blackbaud Management Console
    Note:  When detaching the database, note the primary file path of the database to use when reattaching
  4. Install or upgrade to SQL Server 2005
  5. Prepare SQL Server 2005 for use with Blackbaud databases
  6. Attach the database to the newly installed SQL Server instance using the Blackbaud Management Console, browsing out to the database file location noted in step 3 above.


SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, or SQL Server 2008 R2:

  1. Verify your application is compatible with SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2
  2. Backup the databases
  3. Detach the databases from SQL Server 2000 using the Blackbaud Management Console
    Note:  When detaching the database, note the primary file path of the database to use when reattaching
  4. Install or upgrade to SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2  
  5. Prepare SQL Server 2008 for use with Blackbaud databases
  6. Attach the database to the newly installed SQL Server instance using the Blackbaud Management Console, browsing out to the database file location noted in step 3 above.
