This helps to keep the security of the SSL certificates limited to the organization that purchased them. Furthermore, it helps to limit the scope of those parties who are responsible for maintaining and renewing those certificates.
When an organization purchases Hosting services for Blackbaud NetCommunity (including BBNC Professional, Spark, Grow, REi, OCC, OLA, etc.) or Patron Edge Online (PEO), their purchase comes with a certain number of SSL Certificates, which will be applied to their secure websites (e.g. donation pages, membership registration pages, etc.).
Because Blackbaud is hosting the organization's BBNC or PEO site, it is responsible and liable for managing all SSL certificates that fall under those sites. Users often want to know if the SSL certificates Blackbaud applies to their hosted sites are transferrable - meaning, can Blackbaud provide a copy of that certificate to the organization so the certificate can be used locally. This can happen when an organization moves their database out of Hosting or if they transfer one of their domains/URLs to a non-BBNC/non-PEO specific webpage.
