In some cases, to correct a problem with a particular printer or to aid in troubleshooting steps, a printer driver will need to be completely removed from a system. To do this, perform the following steps:

Windows XP:
  1. In the Control Panel, open Printers and Faxes.
  2. Highlight and delete the printer in question.
  3. In the Printers and Faxes window, go to File \ Server Properties.
  4. In the Window that opens, select the Driver tab.
  5. Highlight the appropriate printer driver and choose Remove.
  6. Select Yes, when prompted, to remove the printer driver.
Windows Vista:
  1. In Control Panel, open Printers.
  2. Highlight and delete the printer in question.
  3. In the Printer window, choose Server Properties (if the button is not displayed in the menu bar, you can access server properties by right-clicking anywhere in the window).
  4. In the Window that opens, select the Driver tab.
  5. Highlight the appropriate printer driver and choose Remove.
  6. When prompted, select Remove Driver Only or select Remove Driver and Driver Package. To completely remove a printer driver from a computer, choose Remove Driver Package. Only removing the driver leaves the driver files on the computer.
  7. Select Yes, when prompted, to remove the printer driver.
Windows 7:
  1. In Control Panel, open Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on the Printer in question and choose the option to Remove Device.
  3. Click on another printer, and select the Print Server Properties button that appears in the menu ribbon at the top of the window.
  4. In the print Server Properties window, switch to the Drivers tab.
  5. Highlight the appropriate printer driver and select the Remove button.
  6. When prompted, select Remove Driver Only or select Remove Driver and Driver Package. To completely remove a printer driver from a computer, choose Remove Driver Package. Only removing the driver leaves the driver files on the computer.
  7. Select Yes, when prompted, to remove the printer driver.
OR
  1. In Control Panel, open Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on the Printer in question and choose the option to Remove Device.
  3. In Control Panel, open Administrative Tools.
  4. Double-click on Print Management.
  5. In the left hand pane of the window that loads, select All Drivers.
  6. Highlight the driver for the printer in question.
  7. Right-click and select the menu option to Renove Driver Package.

Note: If you receive a message stating that the specified printer driver cannot be removed because it is currently in use, restart the Print Spooler service. Once the Print Spooler has been restarted, you should be able to remove the printer driver. To do this:
  1. Open Windows Services (This can be done by going to Start \ run... and typing in services.msc or by going to Computer Management \ Services and Applications \ Services)
  2. Highlight the Print Spooler service
  3. Right-click on it and choose to Restart the service
