Repair the installation on a workstation

Prior to attempting the installation, update, or repair of the Blackbaud software on any workstations, please review and complete the following:

To install on a new workstation (i.e.: the software does not exist on the computer):

Note: If you do not know the location of the Deploy package on the server, then see How to find the Deploy Kit.

  1. Browse to the server's deploy folder.
  2. Run Setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the prerequisites and install the software.
  3. When the installation is complete, launch the software. If a patch has been applied to the server, the workstation should recognize it and prompt to apply it.
    • If using an operating system that has User Account Control (UAC) enabled, then right-click on the shortcut for the Blackbaud application and select "Run as administrator" the first time you attempt to log in.  For more information, see the Installation Article for those systems.
Note:  If the user who will be running the software on the workstation does not have local administrator rights then assign the required NTFS permissions for the user to run the software.

To update an existing workstation (i.e.: an older version of the software exists on the computer):

  1. Launch the software via the desktop or start menu shortcut. If a version update or patch has been applied to the server, the workstation should recognize it and prompt to apply it.
NOTE:  If the software update is not recognized and you are not prompted to apply it, you may need to update it manually. To do this, follow steps 1-3 for how to install on a new workstation (above).
  2. Follow the prompts to install the software update.
    • If using an operating system that has User Account Control (UAC) enabled, then right-click on the shortcut for the Blackbaud application and select "Run as administrator" the first time you attempt to log in.  For more information, see the Installation Article for those systems.

To repair an existing workstation (i.e.: the software exists on the machine, but is damaged):

1.   Follow steps 1 & 2 for "To install on a new workstation" (above).
2.   Choose the option to "Repair" the installation and follow the prompts.
If using an operating system that has User Account Control (UAC) enabled, then right-click on the shortcut for the Blackbaud application and select "Run as administrator" the first time you attempt to log in.  For more information, see the Installation Article for those systems
Note: A repair operation will reset the version on the workstation to the base, non-patched version, so if a patch was previously installed before the repair, then re-apply patch.
