A matching gift claim must be created before adding a matching gift payment. The payment from the matching gift organization must pay off the matching gift claim. Matching gift claims function like pledges and create a commitment when added.

Ensure that the matching gift claim has been entered correctly, using the above scenario of John Doe and McDonalds, here are the steps to do so:
  1. Go to the payment for John Doe and add a matching gift claim
  2. Add the matching gift payment for McDonalds
    1. Go to McDonalds's record and go to the Revenue and Recognition section
    2. Click Add payment
    3. Fill out the appropriate payment information and in the Application dropdown select the type of Matching gift claim
    4. Select the claim if it automatically populated or click Find commitment to search for the specified claim
    5. Click Add to add the application and Save the payment
