Error: Invalid merge field. This merge field is used in the main document, but does not exist in the data source. You can remove the invalid merge field from the main document. Or, you can replace it with a valid merge field from the data source when merging Acknowledgement letters
 Download and install the latest patch, which contains all fixes from previous patches. If you are running an older version, download and install the latest version and then the patch.
 
  1. Clear the local application cache 
  2. Delete the temporary Internet Files      
  3. Change the column headings in the Export Definition
  4. Column headers in the export definition over 40 characters length cannot be referenced properly in mail merge.  You will receive an error indicating this when you generate the header file.  The export definition can be corrected by editing the export definition.  To change column headings:  
 
a)      Go to Marketing & Communications and select Export Definitions
b)      Open the export definition used in the Header File 
c)       Select 'Change Column Heading' on a field to reduce its length.
d)      Save and close the Export Definition
 
  1. Go to Acknowledgments in Marketing & Communications and regenerate the header file 
  2. Update the word document with the new headers from the new header file 
  3. Run the Assign Letters process
  4. Run the Acknowledgment process
