How to import contacts into Sphere

You would like to import a file of contact records to be added to the Sphere database.

Please note: Importing contacts through this solution will not show through Contacts > Database Management > Contact Lists. To add this list to a Contact List within Contacts > Database Management > Contact Lists refer to How to create a contact list in Sphere (BB722447) after following the steps in this article.
  1. Go to Contacts > Database Management > Manage Contacts > Import Contact
  2. Click New Import Batch
  3. Select the CSV (MS DOS version works best) to import
  4. Select Individual or Organizational records
    • For Individual contacts, Last name or email address is required
    • For Organization contacts, Company name is required
  5. Select import option 
    • Do not import duplicate records (importing brand new contact records into your Sphere database)
    • Allow duplicates to be created (If you are updating existing records within your Sphere database)
    • Allow update records using Kintera supporter id (If your CSV has a supporter_id column,updating existing records within your Sphere database)
    • Allow update records using Kintera alternate id (If your CSV has an alternate_id column, updating existing records within your Sphere database)
  6. Click Next
  7. Choose defaults (typically not used for Contact List)
  8. Add a Special Flag to the import for identification purposes (example: the name of the import or the date)
  9. Click Next
  10. Select Segment, if applicable
  11. Click Next
  12. Mark eNewsletter choice, if applicable
  13. Click Next
  14. Name the batch
  15. Map the columns from your CSV spreadsheet to the appropriate Sphere fields
  16. Click Import Now
