Donors can use a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard and AMEX) issued by a bank outside of the US that is in non-US currency. Donors cannot use the ACH/direct debit payment option with non-US banks, this is available for US banks only.
For a donor using a credit card issued by a non-US bank, the payment is processed as follows:
- The amount of the transaction is entered in USD by donor
- The amount of the transaction is processed and deposited into the organization's bank account in USD
- Donor’s card company handles how the conversion takes place. Typically, the issuing bank converts the USD transaction into the equivalent currency of the donor’s card issuing bank and charges the donor’s card in that currency
Please note: If donor entered the transaction in a country different from their billing address, the donor’s card company may fail the transaction for security purposes. Other potential problems are standard and not related to international transactions: incorrect card number, invalid expiration date, incorrect CVV code, credit limit.
