If updating to the latest patch is not possible and if Internet Explorer 9 is installed on the workstation, reverting it back to Internet Explorer 8 will likely prevent this error from occurring as IE9 is not compatible with RE7 versions prior to 7.91.5056, patch 21. Microsoft does not offer any way to download Internet Explorer 8 for Windows 7 on their website. The only way to revert is to uninstall the Internet Explorer 9 update in the Control Panel. See information below.
If Internet Explorer 9 is installed, complete the following steps:
- Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Click the link that reads "View Installed Updates".
- Find Internet Explorer 9 in the list and click the Remove or Uninstall button.
- Follow the prompts to uninstall the update.
- Reboot the workstation.
