Error: RE7 has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available

When clicking on the Admin, Config, Mail, Reports, Plug-Ins, or Home buttons on the Raiser's Edge navigation bar, or when loading the home screen after logging into The Raiser's Edge, users may receive one of the following errors:

Error: RE7 has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available

Error: RE7.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.

After clicking OK, The Raiser's Edge freezes and must be closed. This can occur when Internet Explorer 9 is installed. When looking in the Windows Event Viewer Application Log, users may see the following Application error Descriptions:

Faulting application name: RE7.exe, version: 791.5056.0.0, time stamp: 0x4af9d8d2
Faulting module name: mshtml.dll, version: 9.0.8080.16413, time stamp: 0x4d4cefa9
Download and install the latest patch, which contains all fixes from previous patches. If you are running an older version, download and install the latest version and then the patch.

Alternative Solution:

If updating to the latest patch is not possible and if Internet Explorer 9 is installed on the workstation, reverting it back to Internet Explorer 8 will likely prevent this error from occurring as IE9 is not compatible with RE7 versions prior to 7.91.5056, patch 21.  Microsoft does not offer any way to download Internet Explorer 8 for Windows 7 on their website.  The only way to revert is to uninstall the Internet Explorer 9 update in the Control Panel.  See information below.

If Internet Explorer 9 is installed, complete the following steps:

  1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  2. Click the link that reads "View Installed Updates".
  3. Find Internet Explorer 9 in the list and click the Remove or Uninstall button.
  4. Follow the prompts to uninstall the update.
  5. Reboot the workstation.
Note: Internet Explorer 9 installs as a Windows Update and can only be seen when the option to 'View Installed Updates' is selected.

Please refer to system requirements for information on currently supported browsers.
