Regardless of the merge (ie. merge duplicate into original or vice versa), if the source constituent is deleted, the link also will be removed. Consider an example with two constituents in Raiser's Edge (Marion and Marie Young) and the same records in ResearchPoint:
  • If only Marion's records are linked between both databases: We merge Marie into Marion and delete Marie, the corresponding syncs will occur without error.
  • If only Marion's records are linked between both databases: We merge Marion into Marie and delete Marion, when we try to synchronize, we will receive an error because the original Raiser's Edge record to which the link occurred is no longer available.
  • If both records are linked to ResearchPoint: We merge records in Raiser's Edge and delete the duplicate, the one that remains in the database will still be linked in ResearchPoint.
In other words, the link is not really part of the merge process. If you're deleting the records in addition to merging them, the original link back to Raiser's Edge will not be retained.
Note: No data on their records (with regard to the fields in RE/RP that do integrate) will be added in ResearchPoint until the sync occurs again:
