Holds are sometimes placed on debit or credit cards if a credit or debit card transaction fails.  Failures may occur when the donor uses an expired credit or debit card, or for failing to meet any one of the security verifications set up in the event or form.  For more information, refer to the article Multiple Pending Donations on Donor's Account.

Blackbaud cannot release the hold on a donor's credit card or bank account.  The authorization amount is eventually eliminated but the hold period varies by type of card and can be more stringent for debit cards.  This period can last from a few days to a few weeks.  The card holder can contact their credit card issuer or debit card issuing bank and request a release of the hold.
