The Profile Display (Education Edge) part displays the <photo> merge field as a yes/no answer.

When adding a Profile Display (Education Edge) part in Firefox, users are presented available merge fields from Raiser's Edge and The Education Edge.  One option is <photo> that displays a yes or no value instead of the actual user photo.
The field operates by design. It is not intended to allow adding photos via merge. This field was intended as a 'Does the student have a photo', rather than a place holder for dropping the photo on the page.
