Prerequisites to migrating FundWare to a new server:

  1. Review System Requirements
  2. SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 need to be removed before installing SQL Server 2008. Please review How to uninstall SQL from the FundWare server before continuing with the steps below.
  3. Verify SQL Server 2008 is installed
    1. FundWare 7.60 Professional must use SQL Server Express
How to install SQL Server 2008 Express with Management Studio for use with FundWare
    2. FundWare 7.60 Enterprise must use SQL Server Standard
How to install SQL Server 2008 Standard for use with FundWare
  4. If upgrading FundWare, contact FundWare support for your 7.60 registration number

When moving FundWare to a new server, perform the following steps:

On the OLD server:
  1. Delete the contents of the FundWare\Data\Backup folder. (This is done to simplify navigation and to ensure that the backups used in the steps below are the most recent ones available)
  2. Log into FundWare, go into division maintenance, and back up the database. (We recommend that you delete any test divisions and/or sample divisions 95 and 96)
  3. Ask users to log out of FundWare and stop SQL Services or detach the AFWCore database
  4. Browse to the MSSQLData folder and copy each of the AFW[...]_Data.mdf and AFW[...]_Log.ldf files to temporary location on the new server
  5. Browse to the FundWare\Data\Backup directory and copy the division backups (created in step 2 above) to a temporary location on the new server
  6. Browse to the FundWare\Data folder and copy the 00SYU, 00SYP and 00SYM files (6 files total) to a temporary location on the new server
  7. Open the registry, and browse to Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\FundWare\AFWConvert\Version, noting the value that key contains

On the NEW server:
  1. Install and configure SQL Server
  2. Configure Windows Server 2008 for Fundware
  3. Install FundWare version 7.7
  4. Log into FundWare, go into division maintenance, and create all divisions that exist in FundWare on the old server(Example: If you had three divisions you backed up, from step 2 above, you would recreate those same three divisions on the new server)
  5. In division maintenance, create a backup for each division (This is done to activate the restore button)
  6. Delete the contents of the FundWare\Data\Backup folder
  7. Move the division maintenance backups from the temporary folder (originally taken from the old server) to the FundWare\Data\Backup on the new server
  8. Restore all divisions (previously backed up, from the old server) in FundWare
  9. Log out of FundWare
  10. Detach the AFWCore SQL database from SQL Server:
    • Launch and log into SQL Server Management Studio (Start > Programs > SQL Server 2005 (or 2008) > Studio Management)
    • Expand the databases folder on the left, right-click on AFWCore and choose Tasks | Detach
    • Go to the SQL Data directory (example::\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data) and delete the AFWCore database files
  11. Move the AFWCore database from the temporary folder (originally taken from the old server) and place it in the SQL Data directory, replacing the files deleted in the previous step
  12. Using Studio Management, attach the AFWCore database:
    • Open the SQL Server Studio Manager and connect to the appropriate instance
    • Right-click on DATABASES on the left and select ATTACH
    • Click the ADD button and browse to the SQL Data Folder, if it did not default to it
    • Select the AFWCore database and click OK
    • Close SQL Server Management Studio
  13. Move the 00SYU, 00SYP and 00SYM files (6 files total) from the temporary folder (originally taken from the old server) to the new server’s FundWare\Data folder and overwrite any existing files If you installed the same version of FundWare on the new server that was on the old server, proceed to step 15.
  14. If you installed a newer version of FundWare than what was installed on the older server (Example: 7.40 on the older server and 7.50 on the new server), perform the following steps:
    • Change the Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\FundWare\AFWConvert\Version value in the registry to the version of FundWare that was installed on the old server. The ConvertToBuild value to remain unchanged as the version installed on the new server. For 7.7 on 64-bit servers the path is Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Wow6432Node\FundWare\AFWConvert\Version.
    • Browse out to the FundWare\\Bin folder and run Convert.exe
    • Allow the convert process to run, updating the FundWare databases from the previous version to the new
  15. Log into FundWare and test each of your divisions to ensure the migration/upgrade process was successful
