Where should the Mobile Service and/or Blackbaud Web Services be installed?

The Raiser's Edge mobile app connects mobile devices to a Raiser's Edge database via the Mobile Service. Similarly, The Raiser's Edge Mobile Event Management App, ResearchPoint, and Luminate Online connects online solutions to the Raiser's Edge database via Blackbaud Web Services.  The Mobile Service and Blackbaud Web Services should be installed/enabled in the database itself via Web Services. 

The Mobile Service for The Raiser's Edge and Blackbaud Web Services can both be installed on any server or workstation that has an Internet connection 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and remains on at all times. If Blackbaud Web Services is installed on the same server as the Raiser's Edge Web Service for NetCommunity, connectivity issues can occur for NetCommunity or the Mobile Event Management App. If Blackbaud Web Services is installed on the same machine as Mobile Services for The Raiser's Edge, connectivity issues can occur for the Web Services applications or the Mobile App.  Because of this, Mobile Services for The Raiser's Edge and Blackbaud Web Services should be installed on separate machines.

Please ensure the installation location meets the system requirements for your corresponding version of The Raiser's Edge. The Raiser's Edge does not need to be open and running at all times for users to use the mobile application.  Rather, the server or workstation just needs to remain on and connected to the Internet.

If Blackbaud hosts your database, Blackbaud Web Services will be installed and maintained on our servers for you.

NOTE: If the server or workstation where Blackbaud Web Services is installed is rebooted or loses internet connection the Services will need to be restarted.
  
NOTE: Blackbaud cannot determine where you have installed Web Services.  It can be installed on any server or workstation.  If you are unsure where it is installed, you must check each server or workstation to locate it.
