Option 1

If your organization has the split transaction module, you can enter one donation broken into multiple segments, and each of these segments can be soft credited to a different constituent. In this example, let's say you've received a check donation of $500 from the ABC Organization, which matches gifts on a 1:1 basis. This is in response to two $250 donations made by two of their employees, John Smith and Sally Jones.
  1. Click Accounts
  2. Click Find an Account
  3. Search for and click on The ABC Organization
  4. Click the blue Journal link
  5. Click Add
  6. Select Split Transaction from the Add New drop down menu
  7. Fill in the entire amount of the donation in the Received field; in this case it would be $500
  8. Fill in 2 in the Number of Segments field
  9. Click Add Segments. The screen will now load with 2 Gift Segments
  10. Fill in $250 for the Received of both segments. The combined Received total of all segments must equal the total Received amount for the segmented transaction filled in on step 4
  11. Select the appropriate Fund, Approach, Campaign, etc. within each segment
  12. Click the Tribute, Soft Credit Matching Gift Relationships tab of the first segment
  13. Click the magnifying glass icon next to Soft Credit Information. This will bring up a search window
  14. Search for John Smith and click on his account once you find it
  15. Fill in the Amount field with $250, so the soft credit has the same value as the Received amount of that segment
  16. Soft credit the second segment to Sally Jones using the same steps you took to soft credit the first to John Smith
  17. Click Save And

Option 2
If your organization does not have the segmented transaction module, you can also add a single gift for each of the individuals that needs to be soft credited. We will use the $500 check from the ABC Organization as an example again, which consists of matching gifts for 2 $250 donations from John Smith and Sally Jones, this time assuming that the Segmented Transaction module is not available:
  1. Click Accounts
  2. Click Find an Account
  3. Search for and click on The ABC Organization
  4. Click the blue Journal link
  5. Click Add
  6. Select Gift/Pledge
  7. Fill in the Received, Fund, etc. fields on the left hand side under Basic Information. The Received field in this example would be $250 in this example
  8. Click the Gift Types tab on the right hand side, and select one of the standard Gift Types
  9. Click the Tribute, Soft Credit, Matching Gift Relationships tab on the right hand side
  10. Click the magnifying glass icon next to Soft Credit Information
  11. Search from John Smith's account
  12. Click on the account once you find it
  13. Fill in the Amount field with $250, so that it matches the Received field
  14. Click Save And to save the donation
  15. You would then repeat these steps to add another gift to the ABC Organization account for $250, this time soft crediting Sally Jones on the donation

Option 3
There is one other alternative if you do not have the segmented transaction module. Instead of creating a linked soft credit within a gift, you can add a gift without a soft credit, and then add a standalone soft credit on the other constituent's account. To use the ABC Organization's $500 check as an example, you can add a $250 donation to the ABC account, without recording a soft credit. Then you can open John Smith's account and add a soft credit for $250 as well. You would then repeat those steps for the other $250 matching gift for Sally Jones:
  1. Click Accounts
  2. Click Find an Account
  3. Search for and click on The ABC Organization
  4. Click the blue Journal link
  5. Click Add
  6. Select Gift/Pledge
  7. Fill in the Received, Fund, etc...fields on the left hand side under Basic Information. The Received field in this example would be $250 in this example
  8. Click the Gift Types tab on the right hand side and select one of the standard Gift Types
  9. Click Save And
  10. Search for John Smith and open the account
  11. Click the blue Journal link
  12. Select Soft Credit from the Add New drop down menu
  13. Fill in the Date and Amount ($250 for this example). Also select values in the Fund, Campaign, etc. fields if necessary
  14. In the Note field you can record the account that the original donation was recorded on, in this case the ABC Organization
  15. Click Save And Finish
  16. You would repeat these steps to add another $250 gift to the ABC Organization account, and a $250 soft credit to Sally Jones' account
