When working in Batches within the Journal Entry portion of the General Ledger, the Batch Number (or Batch #) serves as a unique identifier for each batch.
The Batch # field is automatically incremented and generated by the system to keep track of batches. The field is not editable, nor is it possible to reset it to a previous number and begin incrementing again. This is because we would then be creating duplicate batches on the same table in the database, and other portions of the Financial Edge, such as Reports and Queries, would become inaccurate or incapable of running properly. Even deleted batches "take" a Batch # so that they cannot be duplicated or reused. The Batch # field can be extended to 10 places, or digits, making the last available Batch Number 9999999999.
