In the Front Page Customization section you can enter into the different areas the text that you want to display on the page. You can also enter in html into these sections, and it will be rendered accordingly on the page.

However, these sections are designed for basic text first, and then html second. Because of this, the text field will not ignore the extra white space in your html.
If you were to create an html table to display like the following:

<table>
    <tr>
        <td>Cell 1</td>
        <td>Cell 2</td>
    </tr>
</table>

It would enter in an extra line for the end of each actual row typed. In this example, this would add 6 extra blank lines into the page.

An example to have the above html table without the extra lines would have to be typed out like this on one line:

<table><tr><td>Cell 1</td><td>Cell 2</td></tr></table>
