Rather than adding PayPal, Square, etc. as a Gift Type value, we are going to create a new User Defined Field called "Additional Gift Type" to track that information. You can mark this field on any transaction entry. As for the Gift Type field, that is still required and you would want to select Cash. Even though these transactions are not cash, Cash is the only gift type that does not require additional information. So you would want to set your Gift Type to Cash and mark the in addition to the Additional Gift Type field.

First, you will need to create a User Defined Field to track the information.
  1. Click Management
  2. Select User Defined Fields under Database Configuration
  3. Select the Category you want to save this new User Defined Field in
  4. Select New Defined Field
  5. Name the Field Additional Gift Type
  6. Select Text as your Data Type
  7. Click Next
  8. Select Transactions as your field application (do not check off any other boxes)
  9. Click Next
  10. If you would like to utilize either of these options then check the appropriate box (you won't need any of these options)
  11. Click Next
  12. Select Allow assignment of only one value (drop down menu) as your Display Type
  13. Click Next
  14. In the Add value tile, type PayPal
  15. Click Add Value
  16. Repeat this step until you have added all of the values you need (Square, etc..)
  17. Click Save and Finish
Second, you would then add your gift to the donor’s Journal page.
  1. Open the donor’s account
  2. Click Journal in the header to open the journal page
  3. Select Gift/Pledge from the Add New drop down
  4. Type in the date of the donation in the Date field
  5. Type the donated amount into the Received field
  6. Set your Fund, Campaign, Approach
  7. Set the Gift Type to Cash
  8. Click the User Defined Fields bar on the lower right side
  9. Click Additional Gift Type
  10. Check the box next to PayPal
