Error: The file could not be downloaded. Error merging process output: The data source output does not match the template. Merge field 'State_Abbreviation' does not exist in the output.

After running membership renewal notices in Altru, you may get this error when clicking Merge. This error indicates the system cannot merge the information, like State Abbreviation, into the letter because the merge field does not match up with what Altru is expecting. You will need to remove and replace those merge fields in the renewal letter. The steps below will walk you through this process. 
  1. From Marketing and Communications, click Letters, click View Letters
  2. Highlight the letter that needs to be updated, click Edit
  3. Click the hyperlink which opens the letter in Word
  4. From the letters page, note the export definition being used
  5. From Marketing and Communications, click Export Definitions
  6. Highlight the export definition being used, click Generate Header File
  7. Download the CSV file and save this file on your desktop 
  8. In Word, remove the merge fields that were mentioned in the error message
  9. Perform a  Mail Merge to get the merge fields into the letter
  10. Save the letter
  11. From Marketing and Communications, click Letters, click View Letters
  12. Highlight the letter that needs to be updated, click Edit
  13. Clear the file and select this file
  14. Click Save
  15. Run the membership renewal process again
