There is a workaround for the organization or event administrator to know if a person redeems their Groupon or LivingSocial deal in their thon event:
1)      Create a free registration type (label Groupon or LivingSocial deal Only)
*In reality, the participant has already paid to participate in the event by purchasing the LivingSocial and/or Groupon deal prior to registration. Thereby, you do not want to charge them twice

How to create a free registration type:
  1. Log into Sphere, and go to Communities > Special Events > Friends Asking Friends > Kintera Thon
  2. Hover over the event name and choose Website Info
  3. Click Fee Structure and then click Add Registration Type
  4. In the Payment Information tab, set the price to $0
  5. Click save
  6. Publish the event
2)      Optional: Create a custom event field labeled (LivingSocial or Groupon Redemption Code)
*This allows the registrant to enter the code and provides referencing purposes for the organization in running a report.

  1. In Blackbaud Sphere, highlight Contacts, then Database Management
  2. Highlight Field Management
  3. Click Manage Custom Fields
  4. Identify the folder where the specific field should be created (Custom Event Field)
  5. Click Add a Field
  6. Enter a Label for the field, then choose the Data Type (for example, choose Drop Down Box or Text)
  7. Depending on the Data Type chosen, the next step may ask for a list of selections or number of characters. For Radio Buttons or Drop Down Box, you may need to compile a list. For example, a Drop Down Box for a list of eye colors may look like this:

    Blue
    Brown
    Green
    Hazel

  8. Once the list or number of characters is filled in where applicable, click Save
You can add the custom event field to the registration form by completing the following steps:
  • Navigate to the form to which the field the field should be added:

  1. If the form is within a Thon event, select Communities > Special Events > Friends Asking Friends > Kintera Thon
  2. Roll over the Thon name, then click Website Info
  3. On the Webinfo Checklist, click Form Customization or, if in a Thon, click Customize Forms
  4. Click Select on the row of the appropriate form
  5. At the top of the window, choose either the Custom Event Fields tab or Custom Profile Fields
  6. Locate the row for the field, then select the radio button in the Active or Required column
  7. Click Save
  8. Publish the event
