Error: Client found response content type of text/html, but expected text/xml - when accessing plugin

This error message may be intermittently encountered when attempting to access the NetCommunity screen/plugin within The Raiser's Edge.

The more verbose text of this message may appear as:
An error occurred communicating with the web service.  Check the service URL to make sure it is correct.
The error was:
Client found response content type of ‘text/html’ but expected ‘text/xml’.
The request failed with the error message:

500 – Internal server error.
There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

Server Unavailable

The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable.  Please hit the “Refresh” button in your web browser to retry your request.

Administrator Note:

Check the PluginService URL

If the plugin service URL is correct and Blackbaud hosts NetCommunity, Click Chat with Support and reference this article.

  2. Click the NetCommunity icon
