You can select the default salutation formula to automatically apply to constituents when addressing them in email (or other site personalization) instead of manually setting it in each record. You can define both a formal salutation containing their full name and a casual one that uses their nickname or first name only.

Note: You must be a system administrator to create or edit the salutations.

The salutation formulas draw the following information for the Head of Household listed in a contact record and the Secondary Contact if one is listed:
  • Title (Mr., Mrs., Dr.)
  • First Name
  • Middle Name
  • Last Name
  • Suffix (Jr., III)
  • Professional Suffix (Esq., MD, PhD)
  • Nickname
Default Formal Salutations

By default, the available formal salutations are:
  • Mr. John Doe Jr., Esq
  • Mr. (and Mrs.) John Doe
  • Mr. John (and Mrs. Jane) Doe
Examples:
  • For the Gregory Ibarra account:
    • If the Head of Household is Mr. Gregory Ibarra , and no Secondary Contact is listed, the formula would yield: Mr. Gregory Ibarra
    • If the Secondary Contact is Mrs. Sonya Martine, the formula will yield: Mr. Gregory and Mrs. Sonya Ibarra (Note that the formula does not use the last name of the Secondary Contact.)
    • If the Head of Household is Mrs. Sonya Martine, and the Secondary Contact is Mr. Gregory Ibarra, the formula would yield: Mrs. Sonya and Gregory Martine (Note that the formula does not use the last name of the Secondary Contact.)
  • To get both last names correct when they are different, use the Mr. John Doe (& Mrs. Jane Smith) formula.
  • Mr. John Doe (& Mrs. Jane Smith)
  • examples:
  • For the Gregory Ibarra account:
    • If the Head of Household is Mr. Gregory Ibarra , and no Secondary Contact is listed, the formula would yield: Mr. Gregory Ibarra
    • If the Secondary Contact is Mrs. Sonya Martine, the formula will yield: Mr. Gregory Ibarra & Mrs. Sonya Martine
  • Mr John Doe (& Mrs. Jane Smith)
  • Mr. John X. Doe (& Mrs. Jane Y. Smith)
  • Mr. (and Mrs.) John Doe and Family
  • Manually set - do not use formula

    • If a nickname is not provided for the Head of Household or the Secondary Contact, then the First Name will be used in the formula.
