Raiser's Edge and NetCommunity, or Raiser's Edge/Education Edge and Netcommunity/OCC operate as an integrated system and must be considered collectively.
If a restore is required, all involved databases will need be rolled back to the same restore point. If both Raiser's Edge and NetCommunity are present, both databases would need to be rolled back. If Education Edge, Raiser's Edge and NetCommunity/OCC are in use, all three databases would have to be rolled back to the same point.
There are several scenarios where data could become unsynchronized by failing to restore both backups, but one example would be processing new user sign-up requests. If you have processed a request today and linked it to a record, but then restore to yesterday's backup of Raiser's Edge; you will then have no link between the Raiser's Edge record and Blackbaud NetCommunity account.
Generally, rolling data back to a previous backup should only be considered as a last resort to recover from catastrophic data loss.
