letters, numbers, dashes (-), and underscores (_).

There is a 200 character limit for shortcuts, however, it's not much of a shortcut if it even approaches that limit.

There are also general URL shortcuts that can be defined at:
Library > URL shortcuts
A library shortcut cannot be the same as an event shortcut.
A library or event shortcut can be the same as a team or participant shortcut.

After a TeamRaiser event has been closed and archived, you are offered the opportunity
to release the shortcut URLs.  This option will appear in the action column, beside the archived event in the TeamRaiser list view at Fundraising > TeamRaiser > TeamRaiser List (tab).

You must confirm that you wish to do this as event, team and participant shortcuts will be irretrievably deleted.
