Error: Constituent can only have one primary phone - when editing an imported constituent update batch

When changing the phone number or email addresses in a constituent update batch for existing constituents an error regarding primary phones or emails is sometimes seen although the constituent has a primary phone and/or email address. This happens when the batches are created via an import process.
Download and install the latest patch which contains all fixes from previous patches. If you are running an older version, download and install the latest version and then the patch.

Workaround:
When importing: In the CSV file, you need the fields phone primary 1 and phone primary 2.
For example: Since there are 2 phone numbers and each of those fields has to have data, use 0 for each one that is not primary, and then a 1 for the primary email address in the import field value.

When editing the batch: After committing select all of the phone numbers as primary, click save, then go back and select just one and save again. Make sure that you clear the row messages as well.

Steps to Duplicate

  1. Go to Administration > Import > Add a new import process
  2. Select the import file (Import file should have two different types of constituent Phone numbers and Email addresses e.g. home and business type of phone number, email and personal type of Email address)  > Map the import file fields to batch template fields > Click Save
  3. Run the import process > Validate and commit the created batch
  4. Note that a Constituent record with phone number and email address is created successfully
  5. Administration > Import > Run the same import process
  6. Open the created batch
  7. Select the phone field and change primary phone to the other number listed > save and validate
  8. Go back and change again and the error occurs.
The same thing occurs with email addresses
