The backslash is used in organization's names to identify a preferred searchable word in the record name. It can also be used to format an organization name that contains 'The' so it is not alphabetized based on 'The'.
In the Name field on the organization record, enter a backslash (\) for sorting and searching purposes.
For example, if you have an organization that is The Henderson Museum, placing a backslash between The and Henderson allows you to search by Henderson instead of The. Example: The\Henderson Museum.
The system recognizes the backslash but does not print it on mailings and reports. Organization names without backslashes continue to be sorted by the first word in the name.
Note: Sorting with a \ does not operate this way in the query list function.
