Try each of the following steps in order until the error is resolved:

  1. Log in as a user that has local administrator rights on the machine
  2. Update the Deploy package on the server
  3. On the workstation, rename BBUPDATE.INI file to BBUPDATE.OLD
  4. Manually update the workstation by running Setup.exe from the Deploy package on the server
  5. Update/Repair Internet Explorer from the \Deploy\IE5 folder on the server
  6. Update/Repair the Blackbaud Management Console (BMC) on the server
  7. Restore the database from a backup made prior to the update and log into the database from the server first to update the database files.
  8. Verify the user has full rights to the following files on his workstation:
    • DESKTOP.INI (Verify the DESKTOP.INI file is located in the Program Files directory)
    • SPLASH2.HTML (Verify this file is located in the \HTML directory. It may be copied from another workstation if it is missing)
  9. Verify the user has full rights to the following registry key:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00021400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\shellex\ExtShellFolderViews\{598FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}
  10. Update MDAC on the workstation
  11. Uninstall and reinstall The Raiser's Edge 7 or The Financial Edge on the workstation
  12. Update Internet Explorer
