Error: Failed to add email recipients to the emailjob_recipients table - when sending an email message in NetCommunity

When sending an email message in NetCommunity, the status results in an Exception error. After clicking the Status Log button in the email report the following error displays: 

The original connection is closed.  Using a separate connection.  Error:System.ApplicationException: Failed to add email recipients to the emailjob_recipients table. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. ---> 

Download and install the latest patch which contains all fixes from previous patches. If you are running an older version, download and install the latest version and then the patch.

If you are on the latest version of NetCommunity, verify the number of recipients in your email message. There must be less than 120,000 recipients in combination of one merge field or less in the message. If there is more than 1 merge field, the number of recipients must be less. For more information review, limit on the number of email recipients that can be included in email sent through Blackbaud NetCommunity.

Steps to Duplicate

  1. Go to Email > Messages
  2. Click the report icon for the message
  3. See the message had an Exception.
  4. Click the status log button and show more details
  5. See error
