When attempting to log in to The Raiser's Edge, a user may receive the following error message: Error:  [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Login failed for user "DOMAIN\USER": Reason: Server is in single user mode. Only 1 administrator can connect at this time. Native Error: 18461.

Possible causes include, but are not limited to:
  • Database is offline
  • Renamed database files
  • Moved the database to a new server
  • Migrated from ASA to SQL Server

Complete the following steps in the order listed below until the issue is resolved:
  1. Stop and start the database engine for SQL Server 
  2. Restart the database server
