When viewing a configuration page for a Blackbaud NetCommunity website, the following error might be shown on the BBNC Service and BBPS lines: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
This can occur on Windows Server 2003 hosting Blackbaud NetCommunity. On September 3rd, 2015, Blackbaud Hosting disabled ciphers associated with TLS 1.0 to force TLS 1.1/1.2. We have temporarily enabled TLS 1.0 using a strong cipher to restore connectivity for Windows Server 2003. Additionally, on April 2nd, 2017, Blackbaud Hosting removed support for 3DES cipher connections. By default, Windows Server 2003 only supports up to 3DES. Microsoft has supplied a hotfix for Windows Server 2003 to enable the AES cipher suite if on Service Pack 2 for 2003. This cipher suite must be installed to connect to Blackbaud Hosting services such as Blackbaud Communication Services and Blackbaud Payment Services.
Please contact the appropriate software vendor or IT professional for assistance with this process or issue which is beyond Blackbaud's scope of support.
Warning: Microsoft and Blackbaud ended support for Windows Server 2003 on July 14, 2015. We recommend that clients upgrade to the latest versions as soon as possible. For more information about Windows Server 2003 and Blackbaud NetCommunity, please click here.
