Error: This RE constituent is already linked to NetCommunity user: XXX - when processing Sign-up Request

When processing a Sign-up Request, the error This RE constituent is already linked to NetCommunity user: XXX or <Already linked to user: xxusernamexx> may appear.
Why is this happening:
  • The user already has a NetCommunity username and password linked to the existing record in The Raiser's Edge.
  • They have forgotten their username/password and instead of requesting a password reset, they create a new username/password using the same First Name, Last name, Address, etc...
  • This generates a sign-up request that tries to auto match to the existing record in RE but cannot because there is an existing link between the original user record in NetCommunity and the constituent record in The Raiser's Edge, thus causing the error to occur under the sign-up request.
  • NOTE: In the case of signup requests submitted for Volunteer Opportunity, no Volunteer Request will be generated until the link has been updated.
