Querying on same date field several times with AND produces zero results

Working in Query in The Raiser's Edge, using the same date field from the same node (group of fields with plus sign +) multiple times in a query produces zero results.

Some examples are:

Gifts > Gift Date equals last year
AND Gift Date equals this year

Constituency > Constituency Date from greater than 09/30/2015
AND Constituency > Constituency Date from less than 09/01/2015

We have evaluated this issue as a potential defect and we have determined it will not be addressed in the software in its current state.  In this case, the risks and challenges outweigh the potential benefit of resolving this issue.

We wish we could address each and every issue that we come across, but there are occasions when addressing certain issues would add risk to causing a bigger problem or would put other prioritized initiatives at risk.

We strive to select the most impactful changes and issues to address with each release to accelerate the rate at which we deliver new features while sustaining the highest level of quality for our customers.

Alternate Solutions:
Use the One of operators and mark the checkbox that Each record must meet all specified criteria.
Rewrite the query to avoid using the same field multiple times, such as using summary fields.
Put the date fields in separate queries and use Query Merge
Put the date fields in separate queries and use the Select From Query in Query Options.
