Why is mass email sending duplicate email addresses when I select one email per Household?

When sending a mass email using “Combine all Journal Entries for a Household on a single email message” and setting up a persona hierarchy with at least two personas, some of the heads of household are being sent two emails to the same email address.
If you send the mass email using Advanced Mass Email, there is a feature that prevents an email address being emailed more than once.  So even though a head of household may appear more than once in the Number Of Personas With Email Addresses section, it will only send to the email address one time.  This will not happen when using Basic Mass Email.

Steps to Duplicate

  1. Click Communications on the menu bar
  2. Click the category your template is stored in
  3. Click Mass Email under the email template you wish to use
  4. Select Basic or Advanced Mass Email
  5. Set the Query Category
  6. Set the Query
  7. Select “Combine all Journal Entries for a Household on a single email message”
  8. Select “One Persona, based upon the Hierarchy I select”
  9. Fill out at least two personas in your hierarchy
  10. Click Next
  11. Type a name into the Name field
  12. Type an email address into the two email fields
  13. Click Next to go to step 3: Tracking
  14. Click Next again to go to step 4: Preview/Send
  15. Notice the Number Of Personas With Email Addresses is set to 2
  16. Click View Report
  17. Notice that the name and email address of some of the heads of households are being listed more than once
