UPGRADE THE RAISER'S EDGE TO VERSION 7.96:

  1. Perform a backup of your Raiser's Edge database using the Blackbaud Management Console (includes video demo)
  2. Download and extract the Raiser's Edge version 7.96 installation package from Blackbaud.com on your server.
  3. Run setup.exe (not The Raisers Edge.msi file) to begin the upgrade process on your server. 

    Note:  During the server installation, your deploy folder will automatically be updated with version 7.96.  The Deploy folder is used by workstations in order to upgrade to version 7.96.
     
  4. Log into The Raiser's Edge on your server to upgrade your database.
  5. Upgrade The Raiser's Edge to version 7.96 on any workstations by logging onto the workstation with a Windows account that has local administrator rights and double-clicking on The Raiser's Edge shortcut and when prompted, install the upgrade. 
    Note: In the event you're not automatically prompted to upgrade, you may browse to the deploy folder and double-click setup.exe to start the process.
  6. If using a standalone installation, then skip Step 5 above.
  7. Download and install latest patch.

INSTALLING/UPGRADING TO THE RAISER'S EDGE VERSION 7.96 AND/OR MOVING TO A NEW SERVER AT THE SAME TIME:

  1. Download and extract the Raiser's Edge version 7.96 installation package from Blackbaud.com on your (new) server. 

    Note:  SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Service Pack 2 is included and will be installed if you do not have a compatible version of SQL Server.  SQL Server 2008 R2 Express cannot be used if the size of your database is over 10 GBs.
     
  2. Run setup.exe (not The Raisers Edge.msi file) to begin the installation process on your server.  Make note of your Deploy Folder location you selected when installing.
  3. Share out your Deploy Folder to any users that will need to install the Raiser's Edge on their workstations.  Windows users will need Read & Execute permissions.
  4. Attach or restore your database in the Blackbaud Management Console (includes video)
  5. Log into The Raiser's Edge on your server to upgrade your database.  If you have questions about any additional prompts you may receive when logging in, then review: Why am I receiving additional prompts when logging into the Raiser's Edge versions 7.95 or higher?
  6. Log onto a workstation with a Windows account that has local administrator rights, browse to your shared Deploy Folder on your (new) server and run setup.exe to install/upgrade to version 7.96 of The Raiser's Edge on any workstations.
  7. If using a standalone installation, then skip Step 6 above.
  8. Download and install the latest patch.

 Post Installation:
  1. If you integrate The Raiser's Edge with The Education Edge, then you must complete the steps in the "After updating to RE 7.95" section of How to prepare for the update from Raiser's Edge version 7.93 or lower to versions 7.95 and higher when using Integration with Education Edge.
  2. Schedule your backups in the Blackbaud Management Console (includes video demo)
  3. Schedule database maintenance in the Blackbaud Management Console.  See also How often should database maintenance be performed?
