Online Express does not automatically process future gifts for the following gifts. After receiving the gift from Online Express, each of these will need some further processing in The Raiser's Edge to actually receive the funds:

 
Recurring gift or Pledge with credit card or direct debit information

A recurring gift or pledge is a record of a donor's intended future commitment of support to your organization. When a recurring gift or pledge with credit card or direct debit information appears in the Online Express download plugin, a donor has provided billing information for future gifts of support to be processed from The Raiser's Edge. No funds have been processed when this gift record appears in the download.

Here is how these gifts look in the Online Express download:

To process these gifts:
  1. Download gifts from Online Express to a Raiser's Edge gift batch.
  2. Validate the gift batch to review possible exceptions.
  3. Review and address any exceptions. 
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until no exceptions are found.
  5. Commit the batch.
  6. Process subsequent payments from Batch in The Raiser’s Edge each month. (NOTE: Online Express does not process any future payments.)

Recurring gift or Pledge with credit card information with "First Payment Processed" noted

This transaction appears as a recurring gift or pledge with credit card information with the addition of a "First payment processed" note on recurring gifts or "First installment processed" note on pledges. If the donor selects certain gift options and makes a gift on the same date, then Online Express may process the first payment.

For example, your organization opts to offer the processing date of the first of each month. Your donor (1) visits your web page to make on February 1st, (2) makes a recurring gift/pledge choosing the first of the month as the desired processing date, and (3) provides credit card information for the recurring gift/pledge. In these cases where the processing date and the gift date are the same, Online Express will process the first payment. (NOTE: This does not apply for direct debits. First payments are only processed for credit cards in this specific scenario.)

To process these gifts:
  1. Download gifts from Online Express to a Raiser's Edge gift batch. Only the recurring gift/pledge will be visible in the download plugin and batch. The payment gift is "riding along" and is currently hidden because it does not have a recurring gift/pledge to apply to. Here is how these gifts from the examples above download to a batch:

  2. Validate the gift batch to review possible exceptions.
  3. Review and address any exceptions. 
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until no exceptions are found.
  5. Commit the batch.
  6. Optionally: Go to a donor's record to view the recurring gift/pledge and the first payment:

  7. Process subsequent payments from Batch in The Raiser’s Edge each month. (NOTE: Online Express does not process any future payments.)

Cash gift with direct debit information

On an Online Express form, if you offer your donors the option of direct debit, they may opt to select that and request a single gift be debited from a specified bank account. Unlike credit cards, direct debits are NOT processed from an Online Express form. 

When a cash gift with direct debit information is present in the Online Express download plugin, no funds have been processed when this gift record appears in the download. To receive the funds, the direct debit will need to be processed in Batch in The Raiser's Edge.

To process this gift:
  1. Download gifts from Online Express to a Raiser's Edge gift batch.
  2. Process the direct debit in Batch.
  3. Commit the batch.

Pledge with no credit card or recurring gift information ("Bill Me Later" option)
The "Bill Me Later" option offers donor the option of making a pledge online without providing credit card information or direct debit information. No funds are received in Blackbaud Merchant Services with this type of gift. The donor will receive an email confirmation of the pledge. However another follow up, such as mailing a reminder with a gift envelope, is recommended so you can help secure pledge fulfillment.

To process this gift:
  1. Download gifts from Online Express to a Raiser's Edge gift batch.
  2. Commit the batch.
  3. Prepare a follow up, such as a pledge reminder or a donor acknowledgement letter, to thank the donor for their pledge. Consider including a gift envelope or other instructions to encourage prompt payment.
