How to configure your web browser for Blackbaud Hosting Services or the Microsoft Azure

Your Internet browser is used to log into the Blackbaud Hosting Services or Microsoft Azure web page and start your Hosted Application. Because each browser operates differently, you may need to adjust some settings to get the best experience. 

Microsoft Internet Explorer 

Add your environment's URL to the Trusted Sites list and disable Pop-ups for the site: 

  1. Open Internet Explorer and navigate to the URL for your environment. You do not need to click Install if you are prompted to install Citrix Receiver. 
  2. Click the gear icon in the top right corner or select Tools from the menu bar.
  3. Select Internet Options.
  4. Select the Security tab and then click on the green checkmark for Trusted Sites
  5. ​Click the Sites button

​      6. Click the Add button to add the Hosting site to your Trusted Sites list, then click OK to close the Sites list
      7. Select the Privacy tab.

      8. Ensure that the Settings slider is set to "Medium". 
      9. If the "Turn on pop-up blocker" option is marked, click the Settings button next to it and add your datacenter's URL to the list of exceptions.
     10. Click OK to save the changes and close the Internet Options window.

Add the Blackbaud Hosting Services site to the Compatibility View list (Applies to Internet Explorer version 10 and above):

  1. While in Internet Explorer on the Blackbaud Hosting Services website, click the gear icon in the top right corner of the window, or click the Tools menu in the toolbar.  
  2. Select Compatibility View Settings.
  3. If the text field next to the add button is not filled in already, type one of the following website domains into the text box:
    • If your data resides in our US-East, US-West, or Sydney environment, enter
    • If hosted in our Canadian environment, enter
  4. Click Add to add the site to the list, and then click Close.

Mozilla Firefox

Activate the Citrix Receiver Plugin:

  1. Select the Menu button (Three horizontal lines in the top right of the Firefox window).
  2. Click on Options, then click Applications in the left menu bar.
  3. Locate the ICA file under the Content type, then under the Action tab click drop down menu to select "Use Citrix Connection Manager".

Create an exception for the Pop-up blocker:

  1. Click the Menu Button and select Options
  2. Select the Content panel on the left side
  3. If the box is marked to Block Pop-ups, click Exceptions
  4. Type in the URL for your environment and click Allow.

If either browser tries to open the Citrix client itself, attempts to launch a third-party program, or asks to choose or browse to an application to use, refer to our Knowledgebase Article: Launching a hosted application opens a third-party program

Google Chrome 

NOTE: You may be prompted to install Citrix Receiver when you open the Hosting website in Chrome due to Google removing support for the Citrix Receiver plugin. Click "Skip to logon" if you know Citrix has been installed on your computer.

Create an exception for the Pop-up blocker:

  1. Click the menu button (Three vertically stacked dots in the top right of the Chrome window)
  2. Select Settings
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the window and select "Show Advanced Settings"
  4. Under Privacy, click the Content Settings button. 
  5. Scroll down to the Pop-ups section.  If "Do not allow any site to show pop-ups" is selected, click Manage Exceptions 
  6. Add the URL for your environment to the list and choose Allow.  Then click OK.

Apple Safari

Safari is not officially supported by Blackbaud.  Users have had success with the following settings: 

Allow Safari to run plugins for Citrix Receiver and the Blackbaud Hosting Services website by following the steps in this Apple Support article: Safari: About Internet Plugin Management (


Disable the Pop-up blocker and allow plugins (Safari only allows it to be disabled for all sites):

  1. From Safari, Preferences, click Security
  2. Turn off “Block pop-up windows”. 
Turn the Citrix Plugin default to 'On'
  1. From Safari> Preferences> Security, select 'Plugin Options' (newer versions of Safari will show under Safari>Preferences>Websites)
  2. Under Citrix Receiver, change 'Ask' to 'On'
